How to find the right words for this? I don’t know. I have been thinking for days. It’s impossible. But here I go.

It’s time for me to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur. My home for the past decade. When I arrived in 2015, I didn’t speak English, I didn’t know London, but you welcomed me with open arms, believed in me, and stood by me through every high and low. I was just a boy from Korea with big dreams who was supposed to have no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is in my heart forever.

I’ve made friends for life here, had the honour of becoming a godfather here, and had the privilege of captaining our special club here. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this club, which makes this the hardest decision ever. I thought if I was ever going to leave, it would have to be on my terms, on the best terms, when our mission had been accomplished together. With pride and honour.

My debut was something else, the Puskas award was cool, winning the Golden Boot was an honour, but becoming European Champions in Bilbao… that was for life. We will share that night, that moment, and that trophy for the rest of our lives.

And so, to all of you, the supporters reading this. Thank you for your love, your support, and your trust that you’ve had in me for the last decade. To everyone at the club, the chairman, my managers and all who have been alongside me each day in training, in the canteen, travelling, playing, hurting, recovering, winning… Thank you.

To everyone, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I hope I made you all proud.

어떻게 말을 꺼내야 할지 모르겠습니다. 며칠 동안 생각했지만 정말 어렵네요. 하지만 이제 해보겠습니다.



토트넘 홋스퍼와 이별할 시간이 왔습니다. 지난 10년 동안 제 집이었던 곳이죠. 2015년에 처음 왔을 때 저는 영어도 못했고, 런던도 몰랐습니다. 하지만 여러분은 저를 두 팔 벌려 맞이해 주셨고, 저를 믿어 주셨고, 기쁠 때나 힘들 때나 늘 함께해 주셨습니다. 저는 그저 꿈만 크게 꾸던 한국에서 온 한 소년에 불과했어요. 기회는 없을 거라 생각했죠. 그런데 10년이 지난 지금, 북런던은 제 마음속에 영원히 자리 잡았습니다.



여기서 평생 친구들을 만났고, 이 특별한 클럽의 주장으로 뛸 특권도 가졌습니다. 이 클럽에 제 모든 열정과 혼을 쏟았기에, 이번 결정은 제 인생에서 가장 힘든 결정입니다. 만약 제가 이곳을 떠나야 한다면, 그건 오직 제 뜻대로, 최고의 순간에, 우리가 함께 목표를 이루고 자랑과 영광으로 이별할 때라고 생각했거든요.



제 데뷔전은 정말 특별했고, 푸스카스 상을 받은 건 멋졌고, 골든 부츠를 차지한 건 큰 영광이었습니다. 하지만 빌바오에서 유럽 챔피언이 된 건… 평생 잊지 못할 순간입니다. 그날, 그 순간, 그 트로피는 우리 모두가 평생 함께 나눌 것입니다.



그리고 이 글을 읽고 있는 모든 팬 여러분께. 지난 10년 동안 보내주신 사랑과 응원, 그리고 저를 믿어 주신 마음에 진심으로 감사드립니다. 구단의 모든 분들, 회장님, 저를 지도해 준 감독님들, 그리고 매일 훈련장에서, 구내식당에서, 원정길에서, 경기장에서, 아픔 속에서, 회복하는 과정에서, 그리고 승리의 순간마다 함께해 준 모든 분들께… 감사합니다.
